Summary/Abstract: In this talk, Tom Roper considers how other subjects make use of shape and space. What might shape and space look like if we change the way we measure? There will be lots to explore, activities to undertake, some that may be of use in the classroom, some that may just need further research by you! We shall begin with the well-known theorem that small mammals are either furry or eat a lot, or both!
Suitable for anyone who is interested, but particularly for teachers of KS4 and KS5 mathematics.
Tom Roper taught mathematics in schools and colleges for 17 years, before joining the staff of the School of Education at the University of Leeds. He is now retired and is the current President of The Mathematical Association.
