Speaker: Dietmar Küchemann
Title: Making sense of school algebra and pre-algebra
Summary: ATM recently published Algebradabra, a set of tasks written by Dietmar with the aim of taking a fresh look at school algebra. The tasks are intended to help students make sense of school algebra, by focussing on structure and by giving some indication of the ‘purpose and utility’ of algebra. Following on from the London Branch meeting of May 2018, Dietmar will work through some more of the tasks and provide an opportunity for participants to share any experiences they might have had trying them with their students. Algebradabra is aimed principally at KS3 and KS4, but in this session you will also have a go at some early- or pre-algebra tasks aimed more at KS2 which are under development. Dietmar will be looking for your feedback on these!
Date and Time: Sat, 16 November 2019 10:00 – 12:30 GMT
